"Washing Fluid" 1 lb. of soda ash, 1/2 lb. slacked [slaked] lime, 7 qts. soft water. Boil all together in water until very clear and stir often. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Soak clothes over night in cold water. In morning put 5 pails full of water in boiler, slice about 1/2 bar of soap, and put in one pint of fluid. While water is heating, wring out clothes and soap dirty spots. When soap in boiler is dissolved, put in the cleanest clothes and boil 20 to 30 minutes, poking often. Shake out and rub [hands], etc., and rinse in 2 waters.
